Ohio Living Mount Pleasant Employee of the Month for June

Our employee spotlight for this month is Carmen! Carmen is a Team Lead RN who works our nightshift. Carmen started her career at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant as a Nurse’s Aide on dayshift. “I have worked here since 2008, holding the roles of STNA, Activities, LPN and RN.” Carmen works in our rehab department. “On this unit we get a different variety of patients from the community and it is our goal to get them to their optimal capabilities to be able to return to life out in the community. However, there are times it is more beneficial or safer for the resident to stay within Mount Pleasant either in assisted living, skilled nursing, or in rehab to help prepare them for those changes to the best of our ability.” Furthermore, Carmen described the most rewarding aspect about her job. “When we have patients, who are back for their second, third, fourth, fifth stay in rehab and they remember their nurse because of the impact you made on them during a previous stay – or when family members tell you stories that there loved one has told them about the nurse, they had last night.” Carmen plays on an all women pool team for fun during the fall and winter months. This year her team placed third in the state tournament in April. “We are an outdoors family and enjoy fishing, sports, swimming and spending time with family.” Family vacations bring her happiness. “It is a huge point in my life to make sure my kids get to go on a vacation every year.” Lastly, Carmen offered advice for those thinking about healthcare as a career. “Your heart needs to be in it, this is a hard time to be a healthcare worker. Shadow a job before you decide to take on the role. Be the type of worker that you would want to work with, be helpful, kind and compassionate.” Please take a moment to thank Carmen for all she does!
