Your Options

People like you help to further our mission everyday through charitable giving. There are many ways you can help support the people, projects and programs of Ohio Living. Please explore the information below to find the options that are right for you.

If you are 70.5 or older and you have a traditional IRA, then there’s a smarter way to give to Ohio Living. You can make a contribution, also known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), from your IRA that is 100% tax free, whether or not you itemize deductions on your tax return.

How can I help?

Life Care Commitment

The longer we live, the more likely we are to exhaust our retirement savings. Many older adult communities ask residents to leave if their financial resources run out, but Ohio Living has never done this since its founding in 1922. Our Life Care Commitment ensures that no resident has to leave due to lack of funds and that all receive high-quality care regardless of financial status. Generous donors currently cover 20-30% of this program's annual cost, and we aim to strengthen it in anticipation of future economic challenges.

Hospice

We believe patients should control how they live their final days, with dignity and choice. When comfort is the goal, Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice is there to serve patients at home. Each patient is supported by a team including a nurse, aide, physician, pharmacist, social worker, chaplain, volunteer, team leader, clinical manager, and volunteer coordinator. They manage pain, ease symptoms, offer emotional and spiritual support, and train families to care for their loved ones. They provide support through grief, being present only as much as needed.

Make It Happen

Make it Happen® is a program that brings special moments of joy and meaning to those nearing the end of their lives by fulfilling their life-enhancing wishes. Each moment is unique and personal: It can be larger than life, like a hot air balloon ride, or a simple wish for family at a distance to come together one last time. Each Make it Happen® moment creates lasting memories for families of hospice patients served by Ohio Living.

Endowment

Many donors want to ensure that the programs they support now will still be available in the years to come. Gifts to endowment help make this possible because they are structured to provide continuing income lasting for the life of the organization. Endowment gifts are invested in perpetuity. In other words, Ohio Living may use the investment income it generates, but it may never spend the gift’s principal, leaving it as a permanent asset to support the donor’s selected purpose. Donors may direct their gifts to a specific purpose or location. Donors may select from a variety of ways to give when establishing an endowment, with options for recognition and naming opportunities.

Capital Improvements & Programming

Like any home, our communities need repairs, upgrades, and beautification often beyond the available budget. Your generous contributions provide the “extras” that make our communities home to thousands of Ohio Living residents. Donations enhance equipment, like adding comfy covers to benches or reupholstering chairs, tune pianos, and repaint hallways. They also allow for new equipment to expand resident programs and activities. Support for campus beautification brings nature’s touch with flowers, bushes, and trees, making our campuses more inviting. Gifts for programming needs enhance educational, cultural, and social opportunities, improving residents' quality of life.

Greatest Need

Unrestricted gifts help Ohio Living serve underserved older adults without compromising care quality, keeping vital programs available. Those with limited resources often lack access to healthcare, risking illness, injury, and loss of independence. Unlike many providers, Ohio Living partners with agencies like Medicaid and Passport to provide necessary care, despite these agencies not covering the full cost. Many providers avoid serving these clients due to insufficient reimbursement. As a not-for-profit, Ohio Living is committed to serving all older adults with high-quality care, regardless of payment source. Unrestricted gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations are crucial in connecting community resources to those in need.

Spiritual Life

Our mission recognizes the connection between physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, supported by evidence linking spiritual health to physical health. Our chaplains and spiritual care coordinators provide ecumenical spiritual programming and support the spiritual growth of older adults. We encourage residents to stay involved with their congregations and regularly invite clergy to lead worship on campus. We also partner with residents’ congregations to offer diverse spiritual expressions. While affirming our historic relationship with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Ohio Living welcomes all faiths, fostering inclusiveness in our communities and programs.

Gifts can help us grow our Spiritual Life programs, including:

  • Speakers, programs, concerts and more that highlight a variety of religions and spiritual traditions.
  • Pastoral care and counseling for residents who are hospitalized or grieving.
  • Older adult ministry seminars for clergy.
  • Theological student internships.
  • Continuing education in spirituality for our staff.
  • Resources that make our programming more meaningful and festive, including Bibles, hymnals, music, worship banners, candles and more.
