March 2024 Resident Spotlight: Chuck Wyncoop

Posted on March 24, 2024 in

“Look for the good” is one of Chuck Wyncoop’s personal proverbs, and it’s served him well over the years. From serving in the U.S. Air Force to working as a field service engineer for Mitsubishi Electric, Chuck famously finds common ground with others wherever he goes.

Interestingly, Chuck has been to all 50 states and 17 countries on four different continents. His love for travel stems from his time serving in the U.S. Air Force where he was primarily stationed in Germany. In all his travels, some of his favorite travel memories include the Pacific Northwest, because it is such a beautiful area, and Scotland - especially Edinburgh.

After leaving the U.S. Air Force, Chuck returned home and met his future wife, Marcia, after dating her best friend. They got married and had a daughter, Sharon. After a brief time living in California, the couple moved back to the Pittsburgh, Penn., and had their second daughter, Susan.

In 2010, Chuck and Marcia moved to Ohio Living Mount Pleasant to be closer to their youngest daughter. They settled into life in the apartments and quickly made friends. Chuck loved giving back and helping others, so he immediately got involved with Meals on Wheels. Soon, other volunteer opportunities at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant loaded his plate, such as being the apartment representative for the residents' association, presenting “Great Courses” and movie nights, and calling BINGO. He enjoyed the many outings planned by the community and took part in the ILR (Independent Learning in Retirement) program through Miami University. It would be an understatement to say that Chuck took full advantage of all the benefits offered by the community!

Chuck and Marcia enjoyed 60 years of marriage and four grandchildren before Marcia passed away in 2019. Since then, their family has grown by six great-grandchildren who continue to amaze Chuck with their antics.

Some lessons he’s learned through the years are to “never stop learning” and “look for the good.” He certainly lives by those mottos, and even though he’s scaled back on most of his volunteering, he still likes to try new things.

Recently, he joined the independent living chorus. Chuck says, “I can’t sing, but I really enjoy music!” He looks forward to continuing to try more new things at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant.
